Time to Get Ready for the Summer

With only a month left before school is over, everybody has been thinking of same thing summer.Even though we still have AP testing and Finals yet to do, most of us have already started to plan where and what we are going to do when school ends. Sleeping in and relaxing is on everybody’s minds, but as summer approaches, taking advantage of the abundance of time we have would ultimately help us down the road.Internships For upcoming juniors and seniors, getting an internship is a great way to explore career options as well as discovering what your passions are. Not only are you able to gain new skills, but you are also able to enhance your college applications and might be paid as well. There are many internship opportunities geared towards high school students and a variety of them are virtual making it easier to work around your summer schedule. Community Service If you are not ready to devote most of your day to classes or a job, but still want to do something productive for the summer, community service is what you should do. Not only will you be helping the community but also, you might enjoy your volunteer work to the point where you want to continue. If you are having problems finding a job to do, www.volunteermatch.org is a great tool for finding where to volunteer as well as choosing what you would like to do. Summer School Summer school is not only to make up credits; it can also be used to get ahead in your classes. If you are struggling in deciphering between two classes to take next year or would like to have a free period in your schedule, check the list of classes offered at your school or within your district. SAT/ACT Test Prep For upcoming juniors, taking a SAT/ACT prep class would be vital for the upcoming year. If you do not plan to take a prep class, if would still be of your best interest to buy a test prep book and self-study. Since the PSAT, SAT, and the ACT all have similar concepts and are offered during the beginning of the year, by practicing over the summer, you could save yourself some time by being prepared and taking all of the tests within the same month. But of course, you could always take the tests later on during the year. College Tours If you are not interested in taking classes, helping your community, or applying for an internship, but are still interested in doing something productive during the summer, taking a college campus tour would fit your needs. To see how buyers decision processes operate in real life, we may investigate two cases of purchases of the same product, a feature-rich Samsung mobile phone, by two different people, 27-year-old Greg and 22-year-old Kelly. To clarify the roots of their decisions, a series of interview questions were created which helped analyze the buying behavior of each person. Let us see what those questions were and which answers were given to them by Greg and Kelly. The interview questions were grouped according to the logic of the AIUAPR model of buyer decision making (Mercer, 1996, pp.51-55) that emphasizes the succession of mental states of a buyer through which he or she must progress to make single or repeated decisions to buy something. In this connection, as the first such state is awareness that a certain product or service exists, the first question to Greg and Kelly was how did they learn about that particular model of the phone. Greg answered that he learned about it from the commercial by Verizon mobile service provider who promoted this model along with value-added content services, while Kelly actually saw this phone already owned by her friend. Thus, Greg can be said to have been correctly targeted by the advertising campaign, and Kelly represents an instance when an experience of others instigates us to repeat it. After awareness, the next crucial step in buyers decision process is the emergence of the interest in a product or service. Surely, if this step does not occur, then buyers awareness would be useless for sellers. And of course, the real interest can emerge not just after the brief attention to catchy ads, but if the message persuades people that a product or service suits their needs. In our case, the attempt was made to reflect this stage of the decision-making process by the question about why did Greg and Kelly assume that the phone would satisfy their needs. In this respect, Greg informed that he was interested in the prospect of having a single device that would combine in it not only the functions of a phone, but music-playing capabilities as well, thus sparing him from the need to have separate units that would be inconvenient to carry along. For Kelly as the main eye-catcher served the fashionable look of the phone, and the possibility to have it in bright red color, the one she has an affection to. From this aspect of the decision-making process we can see that these were actually two different qualities of the product that interested Greg and Kelly in the first place. The third step in the account of decision-making processes within the AIUAPR model is the understanding as the level of appreciation of the degree to which the qualities of the actual product can bolster the interest that has previously emerged. To uncover how our interviewees passed this stage they were asked how, and if at all, they collected additional information needed for the complete understanding that the decision to purchase this phone would be justified.

In this essay I discuss why there is proof that there is a supernatural being known as God, who has created everything we know and experience. The mere claim, there could be a "Proof for the Existence of God," seems to invite ridicule. But not always are those right who laugh first and think later. Remember how all-knowing doctors/scientists laughed at every new discovery. They laughed when they heard for the first time about diseases that were supposedly caused by animals so tiny that you could not see them. They continued to laugh at virtually every discovery that challenged their previous believes in an attempt to preserve the status of "have-studied-for-years-and-must-therefore-know-everything-already." They always laughed first but, when things became clear, they must have felt very, very... On the other hand, many well-known scientists now admit that certain discoveries tend to indicate that God rather does exist than not. The problem, I suggest, lies in certain preconceptions. If we picture God as a person, then the question comes up: where is God? However, if we picture God as something that could be everywhere, surrounding us like air or awareness, then, understanding if and what God is - all of a sudden - becomes a possibility. I am sure you can agree: if there is a God, then God has to exist and has to be aware of His Existence (can you even picture an unconscious God). Also, He must exist on his own, which means: God must be self-energetic. That is the safest thing we can say without too much speculation. And, in fact, that is precisely what God is: God is self-energetic Awareness. But I don't want to presuppose that God's existence is a fact before the proof is established. Simply by looking at what constitutes our world, we can say that all matter consists of energy, proving the existence of energy. How, then, do we know this energy exists? The simple answer is, we are aware of it. We then only have to find out how this awareness came about. Did it come from dead matter or lifeless energy as the materialists have us believe? Or, did Awareness exist first or did Awareness co-exist with energy, out of which the Awareness then formed matter? Is awareness a by-product of electro-chemical activities in the brain? Is Awareness the out-put or the Generator? We are more certain considering our thoughts.

Literary Analysis

Langston Hughes’ â€Å"Theme for English B† is an interesting piece of perspective from an author who is obviously struggling to come up with an answer to what a teacher had thought to be a fairly straight forward question. When Hughes’ instructor asks him to go home and simply put down truth on a single page, it opens his eyes up to all of the things that he has done in his life. In addition to that, it opens his eyes to who he really is, what things drive and motivate him, and how other people have helped to shape him. He touches on certain racially charged issues, though he never really gets into them in detail. For the most part, his writing is a compilation of that several aspects that have made up his life and turned him into the relatively young man that he is. Hughes begins his writing by simply wondering out loud to himself. His first words serve as something of a critique of the assignment itself. The teacher has indicated that this would be something that should not take long and it should be relatively simple for the students to complete. Hughes realizes right away that it is not that easy, at all, to come up with a real picture of the things that make a person who they are. At the beginning, the majority of Hughes’ doubts have to do with the fact that he was brought up in some different places and that he has always been something of an outlier when compared to his contemporaries. Hughes writes, â€Å"I wonder if it's that simple? I am twenty-two, colored, born in Winston-Salem. I went to school there, then Durham, then here to this college on the hill above Harlem. I am the only colored student in my class.† (Hughes). In this, the reader gets a clear picture of the road that has led Hughes to the university and how those things have had a seemingly profound impact on his life. Hughes also takes the time to touch on some racially charged themes in his life in the later part of his opening dialogue. He does not look like a lot of the students around him, which obviously presents some problems for him and it also makes him appreciate his background. He learns to appreciate the reasons why he was able to come as far as he has come. Jane Alice of American Studies had some interesting thoughts on the main themes behind this particularly piece of poetry. In her analysis, she writes, â€Å"The instructor of his class is then implying that everyone here in his college class has something in common or has some what of the same life† (Alice). This serves to address the big problem of perception that can often time separate people in academia. For the teacher, everything was simple and everyone in the class had a similar upbringing. After all, they were there in a good college, so they had to come from the same type of background. Little does she know that it was much more of a struggle for some people than it was for other people. For the poet, getting to college was no simple task. Instead, it was something that required the ability to overcome many hurdles along the way. Hughes is an interesting case when it comes to his perspective. He is no small player in the African American community, having ascended to the position of poet laureate and having produced some of the most well recognized work of his time. It is absolutely essential to understand these things if one is going to understand what he is trying to say in â€Å"Theme for English B†. According to Mark Maier of AssociatedContent.com, this is the primary piece that readers have to grasp. Maier writes, â€Å"Hughes was a staple in the Harlem community, and a major player in the Harlem Renaissance—a coming-of-age for African American creativity in the throughout the 1920’s and ‘30’s. He is 47 by the time he writes this poem (not actually for the assignment’s due date) and it serves as both an educational and reflective vehicle—a voice that tells the how and why of not only what was happening during the time of his class but what was happening during the time he penned the piece† (Maier). This was a reflective piece, one that Maier had to think long and hard about before he put it down onto paper. Not everything is racially charged in the poem, though. Hughes spends a lot of time thinking about what it means to be an American and life in America is life. He comes to the conclusion that being American is all about having different people as a part of your life, regardless of their background and their upbringing. Hughes writes in the poem, â€Å"But it will be a part of you, instructor. You are white— yet a part of me, as I am a part of you. That's American† (Hughes). This is something that Chris Semansky speaks to, as well. There, he writes, â€Å"As ‘Theme for English B’ indicates, Hughes, from the beginning of his career, consistently explored the idea of an American voice, and he repeatedly insisted that what we define as â€Å"American† must include the experiences, language, and visions of both its black and white citizens† (Semansky). All in all, many themes are addressed in Langston Hughes’ poem. From the obvious racial issues to the idea of an educational gap, he uses the idea of a simple assignment to address some things that are very important to him. Tina Mazzula speaks to this on more than one occasion in her analysis of the poem. She writes, â€Å"Langston Hughes, in writing â€Å"Theme for English B,† creates a poem that addresses the â€Å"white† concern for traditional English syntax, while at the same time, acknowledges the distance between the â€Å"white† culture and his â€Å"colored† self† (Mazzula). One cannot truly understand what Hughes was trying to get across without addressing each of these things individually and as a whole. Though some have tried to suggest that one thing was more important than another to the poet, it is clear from his many writings that he took many different aspects of the educational process very seriously. Geovanny Moreno Mrs. Jones English III IB 10 April 2014 Evolution of Male Dominance Throughout A Doll’s House Throughout history male dominance is prevalent. Males are always seen as the â€Å"bread winners† while women are likely to stay at home. In the play A Doll’s House, written by Henrik Ibsen, the audience is guided through a dictatorship masked by the word â€Å"marriage†. The setting of the play is in Norway, where the Helmer family lives together in a patriarchal society around the late 1870’s. Nora and Torvald Helmer appear to be a delightful couple. However, as the novel progresses, it is easily seen that there are major problems in their marriage. Torvald’s male dominance slowly diminishes in his superficial marriage to Nora and he soon gains knowledge over a touchy implication.Torvald’s authority over Nora perishes as Nora breaks free of her shackles and decides to leave the â€Å"Doll House† Torvald has created. Torvald believes and acts as a superior bein g toward Nora; he displays such actions by calling his wife demeaning names such as â€Å"Little squirrel† (Ibsen 2), â€Å"Little skylark† (2), â€Å"Little spendthrift† (2), â€Å"Little person† (3) â€Å"Little girl† (5), and â€Å"Little woman† (26). Such names create the illusion of him being more of a father figure or higher being who is much greater than his unfortunate wife, Nora. His controlling characterization continues when he engages in further conversation with Nora and asks her if she’s had macaroons.
